Frequently Asked Questions
1.What is Reiki? Reiki is the combination of two Japanese words, “Rei,” which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and “Ki,” which is “Life Force Energy.” Put together, Reiki is “Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy.”
2.What is Healing Touch? Healing Touch was developed in 1989 by Janet Mentgen, RN, and is a gentle touch that assists in balancing your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
3.How do Reiki and Healing Touch differ? Reiki is an ancient method of healing that has been passed on through generations in the Japanese tradition and now throughout the world. It is a channeling of Universal Life Force Energy to enhance the natural healing process of one’s body/mind/spirit. It works with the energy field, your aura, and the seven chakras. Healing Touch is a curriculum taught by trained instructors that uses a methodical hands-on approach that provides touch to restore balance to the human energy system. I use a combination of Reiki, Healing Touch, other Energy Healing modalities, and most importantly the guidance I receive from God, while connecting with your Higher Self in a session. I determine which technique to use on you based on your preference and the Guidance I receive while working on you (if you prefer hands-off, that is perfectly fine, and the energy healing works just as well!).
4.Is Energy Healing a religion? No. Energy Healing is not a belief system, but rather is a healing modality within Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). As I stated earlier, in general, I choose to use the term God, but also use the terms Source/Universal Life Force, and am open to referring to whatever name you use for your Higher Power.
5.Can Energy Healing replace traditional treatment and medication? No. Energy Healing is considered complementary, and therefore is best to be used with traditional medicine. I prefer the term “integrative,” because Energy Healing and all CAM therapies are intended to be just that, and work with medicine, rather than against. Energy Healing is not a substitute for the input and treatment of your doctor, or prescription medication, but because of the benefits, you just might see less of your doctor! ;)
6.Is Energy Healing safe for children and animals?Yes! Kids often respond better to Energy Healing than adults because they are open-minded and have less life experience that may lead them to question or resist energy, making their energy field even more sensitive and responsive to the work. Energy Healing works on all living beings, animals as well! Contact me if interested.
7.What does Energy Healing feel like? This is different for each client, as each person has different sensory responses to energy. Common responses include feeling heat, coolness, or vibrations. Some people go into a deep relaxation state, or may even fall asleep. This is fine! Our bodies often receive energy healing more willingly when we are in that state of simply “allowing.” Even if you don’t experience any physical sensations during the session, healing is still taking place and most people experience a marked improvement in their well-being within 3 days, if not immediately. Energy is energy and intention is powerful, some people are just more sensitive to energy than others. There is no right or wrong, your Higher Self is at work and is much wiser than we ever give it credit for!
8.What are Chakras? ‘Chakra’ comes from the Sanskrit word meaning ‘wheel.’ There are seven chakras in the human body, along with many other ‘sub-chakras,’ being made up of spinning vortex energy. The chakras start at the base of the spine and run up through the head, each chakra lining up with your spinal column. Almost all religions make reference to these spiritual energetic points within the human body. When our chakras are out of balance, and not spinning properly, as a result of emotions, stress, and illness, blockages form within our energetic field. Each chakra affects different areas of the body and much of our illness is caused by poor chakra health. Energy healing clears the blockages within your chakras, allowing for our energy field to be open, balanced and healthy.
9.What is an Aura? An aura refers to the energy field that emanates from a person or object, appearing as an outline of rainbow colors. Metaphysics refers to the aura as electromagnetic fields. These fields exist within and around every object known in the world, and has been scientifically proven. Auras vibrate to different colors, sounds, and light frequencies, varying with one’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual states.
10.What is an Energy Field? The energy field is what surrounds us, is inside of us, and penetrates our entire being. This field of energy extends beyond our auras.
11.Is the Information I provide confidential? In general, the law protects confidentiality of all communication between a client and a practitioner. Information is not disclosed without written permission. However, there are a number of exceptions to this rule. Exceptions include:
• Suspected child abuse or dependant adult or elder abuse. The practitioner is required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
• If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person(s). The practitioner must notify the police and inform the intended victim(s).
• If a client intends to harm himself or herself. The practitioner will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in insuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, further measures may be taken without their permission in order to ensure their safety.
